Despite Imperial apathy to the war, some in the court recognized that the Commonwealth is by those who practice the Calvinist faith, the same fate as the Dutch rebels against the Spanish rule in Netherlands in years past, in which the empire provided aid to. They push the Sultan to send some aid(i.e points) to the English on the grounds of supporting the Calvinist in their wars against Catholic heresy.

Si vis pacem, para bellum

The Ottomans were successful at securing their frontiers against the Russians and Persians for at least a generation in early 1700s and the Austrians in late 1600s. Which has allowed the empire to focus on other ventures such as expansion in Arabia and expanding the empire trade holdings in Indian Ocean. However, these ventures and new gains were still minor to the empire overall holdings in Europe. The backbone of the empire was the Balkans. The Ottomans look on with worry as the Austrians finally recovered from the recent wars and have turn their eyes back to the Ottoman’s holdings in the region. It’s only matter of time before the Ottomans or Austrians would make a move that will led to war against the old rivals.

For the past five years, Sultan Ahmad III and his Viziers focus efforts on rebuilding the Imperial Army/Navy for a potential war with Austria and its allies. Some in the Sultan’s court push for the Sultan to declare war as soon as possible and take Vienna for the empire for good, while other advisors stress the need for a defensive war and balk against the idea of new conquer. After all the northern frontier was big as is to keep and defend, adding more lands will not help the empire. For the now, the debate is ongoing within the courts with no clear decisions on a potential direction.

Fall, 1728

Nader Pasha, the victorious vanquisher of the Austrian invaders, continues his farewell tour throughout the Ottoman Empire. He and his Hotak cavalry stop in the major garrison towns of the Balkans on his way back to Anatolia and beyond. While en route, decides that it is only befitting that he be granted an audience with the monarch whose Empire he saved. He arrives at the capital and is greeted by the generally decadent, corrupt, and aloof Vizier, Ibrahim Pasha, who is a thoroughly unpopular individual with hoi polloi of Constantinople. Taken aback by the unprompted visit of the (much more popular) military hero, the Vizier scrambles to find space to host the illustrious commander. A suitable Yalı along the Bosporus is found, and Nader quickly becomes a figure in courtly society.
