Kandyan Wars
Early 1788
There is much tension between the new British colonial rulers of Ceylon and its native Kandy rulers. The Kandy had opt to attempt drive the British out of the Island by staging a number of raids on frontier outpost and forts. The increasing conflict forces, the current Dutch garrison commander of Trincomalee writes to his new superiors in Calcutta requesting more troops to contain the Kandy uprising.

Re: Kandyan Wars
In response, shipping is assembled (2 flotillas) to move an infantry division from South Africa to Ceylon (General Howe commanding) with orders to deal with the Kandy. Follow up trips will bring the artillery and supply column and once the entire force is assembled, once the monsoon ends, the British will attack the Kandy and sack their capital if they do not agree to terms. 2 Garrison brigades from India are mobilized (2 points from Ceylon previously not budgeted) and sent to Ceylon as well. Cornwallis is in overall command of the theater.

September-December 1788
British-Indian arm forces are able to shatter any attempts by Kandyan armies to raid the coastal regions with light losses, however they aren't able to find a path to attack the Kandy heartland in the mountains for now. A uneasy peace exist in Ceylon as both sides debate on their next moves.

Re: Kandyan Wars
Lord Cornwallis returns home from India after years of outstanding service. In his place, General Howe is made Lord Lieutenant of the Dominion of India. His brother, Admiral Howe is ordered to provide support in the ongoing war in Ceylon. General William Meadows takes command in Ceylon.
Sir Richard Wellesley is named governor of Ceylon, while his younger brother finds a place with a regiment involved in the fighting.

Re: Kandyan Wars
Jan-Dec 1790
In February 1790
Fighting is still limited to small battles against the Kandyan forces. A young lieutenant Wellington is mention in the dispatches for his heroic defense against a large Kandyan army column and preventing the fall of a key supply depot to the Kandyan forces.
For the remainder of the year, it seems the Kandyan are content with remaining on the defensive. They send a envoy to British governor with peace offer.
Status quo and gift of five points to leave Kandyan alone.

Re: Kandyan Wars
Governor Wellesley accepts the Kandyan offer, mainly as the British East India Company has made its point.
Re: Kandyan Wars
With peace restored in Ceylon, expeditionary forces return back to their stations in South Africa and India. Only 5,000 garrison and fortress troops remain on Ceylon as the new relationship with the Kanyan emphasizes trade over control
