Population and Economic Growth, 1710
Economic and Population Growth in Player Nations by 1710
Population:
We are not quite in the realm of the population boom yet, and so barring major catastrophes or border shifts most countries have not seen a drastic increase in their populations. All player countries have seen their populations grow by 3% (cumulatively, not annually) from 1701-1710. New World colonies have not quite hit the beginning of their massive population boom, but grow by 10% in this same period. Population changes for NPCs are reflected on their pages.
Re: taxation due to the above population increases, feel free to round to the nearest .05 (i.e. anything between 100,000 and 200,000 population growth will get you at least .05 in new income, which is half the maintenance of a garrison so it’s not nothing).
In addition to the population growth detailed above, some countries have seen additional major additions or losses. For these countries, make the following changes after making the calculations above (for example, Poland’s population increased to 6,180,000 from population growth, then add the 1,000,000 below, for 7,180,000).
Poland:
Increase of 1,000,000 since 1701 (represents conquered territories, minus losses due to famine)
Russia:
Decrease of 1,000,000 since 1701 (represents lost territories and famine)
Denmark
Increase of 300,000 since 1701 (conquest of Holstein)
Ottoman Empire
-Zaporizhian Sich decrease of 100,000 due to famine
-Crimean Khanate decrease of 50,000 due to famine
Economic Changes
As above, we are also some time off from the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and its attendant massive increase in economic output. However, the wars in Eastern and Central Europe have spurred industries to both arm the combatants and rebuild from the losses, international trade continues to grow, and certain countries have become more active in the realm of sovereign debt and borrowing. To that end, the following resources have appeared in Europe:
Ottoman Empire:
-1 Financial Center: Constantinople
Ireland
-1 Craft Center: Cork
France
-1 Craft Center: Bordeaux
England
-1 Craft Center: Edinburgh
Spain
-1 Craft Center: Cadiz
No mod fiat colonial developments have taken place other than previously identified in game threads or driven by player actions (i.e. founding new trade posts, outposts, etc). The primary driver of economic development, currently, is the population growth and movement to the colonies.
