The authorities in New Spain draw up plans for exploration of more of the interior of California, as well as the territory of the Río de San Roque (RL Columbia River and Willamette Valley) to better map the territory, as it is thought that it may be worth while to expand settlement in the future. It is also thought that better defining the border might be a good idea - the interior is not well-mapped.

The escalating rhetoric out of the Dominion of North America concerns the Spanish crown and plans are drawn up to raise more colonial troops to defend Spain's holdings in North America, as well as building additional fortifications.

The specter of war causes a reshuffle of troops; the Army of Naples is recalled to Spain for deployment elsewhere.

By mid-1804, the Crown embarks on an infrastructure project in New Spain, planning on the construction of a more well-maintained royal highway from Mexico City to San Antonio and Galvezton.

As such, 5,000 regulars, 5,000 colonial troops, an engineering brigade and two supply trains are ordered to begin preparation for the construction project, with funding to be provided for building materials and paying various civilian contractors.

(ooc: mobilizing four brigades to act as construction troops and another two supply trains mobilized to keep them fed, etc., with the goal of laying several hundred miles of road per years, starting from both ends; an additional 8 points paid out of the 1804 budget; materials cost to begin in 1805, since by the time they're ready to begin work, it will be winter).

An update on the Royal Family

Currently, there are two twin princes - the crown (and elder) prince is Carlos Francisco de Paula, twenty-one years old, and currently married to Maria Antonia of Sicily and who have just celebrated the birth of their second daughter.

The second prince is Felipe Francisco de Paula, also twenty-one, is married to Maria Antonia of Parma and who have a four-year-old son and who last year celebrated the birth of a daughter.

The third and youngest prince, at age nineteen, is Fernando Francisco de Paula who is still due to be married at some point in the near future.

Monarquía Hispánica - Page 4 Empty Re: Monarquía Hispánica

Post by Kilani Thu Mar 18, 2021 12:46 pm

January - February, 1805

News slowly trickles in from North America to the court of the king and, so far, the Spanish have some reason to be pleased. The initial Anglo-American invasion of Louisiana appears to have been beaten back, albeit with casualties. Santo Domingo continues to hold out in the face of siege. As of yet, the Spanish Navy has not been forced into an engagement it cannot win. More alarming is the news of the British invasion of Buenos Aires - however there are no details for the court in Madrid to pore over, due to the great distance.

The entry of Russia into the war causes confusion, but less alarm - the Russian navy is generally considered poor and while it adds to the odds against the Spanish, they were already facing an uphill climb in any case.

Closer to home, the fall of Rome causes some consternation. There is tension between the more liberal members of the court and the conservative wing and the clergy. A reaction is urged, but the liberal minister of state manages to hold sway - Spain cannot afford to alienate France, locked as it is in a war with the English.

Meanwhile, in Peru, the Viceroy José Fernando de Abascal y Sousa begins mobilizing what troops he has at his disposal.

In Mexico, the Viceroy continues to rally crillos to the banner - the Anglo-Americans cannot be allowed to simply smash and take whatever they like. First Louisiana, next Texas and then perhaps all of the rest of the continent, surely?
