John Robinson, the Commonwealth ambassador to the Swedish court, makes it known through intermediaries that the London is prepared to offer financial loans, should the Swedes wish more funds.

Re: Konungariket Sverige
The Death of the King
Summer, 1702
With news of the death of the daring young Charles in the Battle of Riga arriving on the heels of the news of the great naval victory, the Swedish populace goes from elated to devastated overnight. The war in the East has seen nothing but defeat after defeat after defeat, after the glorious opening at Narva, and now that the King is dead there is a power vacuum at the heart of the Swedish polity. The young king left no heirs--no marriage, either--and two sisters: his elder sister Hedvig Sophia is the Duchess of Holstein-Gottorp, bearing one son, while his younger sister, Ulrika Eleonora, has no issue. As it stands, the strength of primogeniture would mean that the crown passes to Hedvig Sophia’s 1-year-old son, Charles Frederick. As a vassal of the Danish crown, the Danes soon press the claim of the young Duke in return for renouncing his claim to the Duchy. His claim is supported by the President of the Privy Council, Nils Gyldenstolp, and, controlling the mechanisms of state as well as her deathly ill husband, Hedvig Sophia’s party is able to maneuver to have the infant Charles Frederick crowned King of Sweden in Gottorp on August 2nd 1702. The Privy Council prepares the announcement of the coronation as soon as official word arrives.
However, the Riksdag is replete with nobles who detest the idea of a Danish-backed monarch, and view the defeat in the east as being caused by the absolutist system of government forged by Charles XI and his ancestors. They view this as an opportunity to finally be free of an overpowerful monarchy and restore the power center to the nobility, as in Poland. To that end a power-center is formed around the younger sister Ulrika, commanding much of the support of the nobility, led by the noble general and diplomat Arvid Horn. Ulrika Eleonora, summering to the north of Stockholm in Uppsala, is proclaimed Queen by the assembled nobility on August 5th, 1702 before news of Charles Frederick’s coronation reaches the Swedish capital. The competing claims are both made public to the population of Stockholm on the 6th and 7th of August, and the city rapidly descends into violence. The Nobles, however, are ultimately able to sway the garrison to their side, and Gyldenstolp and the Hosteiner Party are ejected from the city.
Sweden thus descends into a state akin to civil war, with the provinces declaring one way or another (or, more accurately, their standing garrisons declaring one way or the other). With the majority of Sweden’s field forces defeated, the professional military is effectively absent from the decision-making process, and local nobles dominate the garrisons of the countryside. From their powerbase at Stockholm, Ulrika Eleonora and the Palatinate Party are able to exert control over the western regions of Svealand (essentially Stockholm and Uppsala) Norrland, and Finland, while Hedvig Sophia and the Holsteiner Party are able to claim the allegiance of Gotaland and the rest of Svealand (From Vasteras west to the Norwegian border).
Open war has yet to be declared, as the two parties move quickly to engage in diplomatic outreaches to the various opposing powers. The Holsteiner Party has moved quickly to reassure their allies in Denmark and England that they will faithfully pursue the war and their treaty obligations, while the Palatinate party has begun to make outreaches to their former enemies to put an end to the war on the Eastern front.

Re: Konungariket Sverige
In the continued interest of improving ties with the Swedes, first cultivated during the Great Northern War, the French Crown directs the French Navy to inquire about the paying for the construction of 4 BB2 (Polaris class) at the Swedish Naval Yard at Malmo. These ships will be for service in the French Navy but the chance for French and Swedish naval architects to work together seems like it would be useful to both nations

Sweden is amenable to the French plan, but notes that by building these ships for France will deny them the space to rebuild their own Navy, still recovering from the Northern War. Thus, they will impose a surcharge per vessel being built (.5 points p.a. for all four ships, for a total of 3 points over 6 years).

Re: Konungariket Sverige
King in the North: Sweden through 1725
Sweden, after two decades on the periphery of European affairs due to the catastrophe of the Great Northern War, has begun its tacit return to the global high table. Its economy, per capita, is one of the most productive in Europe, and its geography makes it a natural force to contest Polish dominance along the Baltic. The restive border with the Russians has become even more porous and open to exploitation, as the Swedish fortress at Vyborg is now pointed straight into the heart of the Khaganate’s maelstrom. Sweden’s naval yards, meanwhile, have been busy at work churning out ships for the various 2nd-tier countries of Europe, while her naval stores fetch a high price across the continent.
The young king of Sweden, Charles Frederick, is just reaching the prime of his life and ready to avenge the myriad injustices inflicted on his country. Admittedly, the death of Charles XII opened the way for his family to take the throne, but the near civil war and the general chaos caused in its aftermath weakened both the state of the Swedish crown and the state more broadly. Now, as Sweden moves to re-enter the dance of the European powers, the king plots each and every move to restore what was one of Europe’s most feared nations to greatness.

Re: Konungariket Sverige
Emissaries from the Polish king arrive in Stockholm in early winter of 1725. They travel with an entourage including merchants from the NKK and bringing gifts from Africa and maps of potential treasure. The envoy hands a sealed letter bearing the mark of Augustus with a secret message for the Swedish King.
The king expresses his wish for peace in the Baltic but notes troubles to his border. He proposes that Sweden and Poland work together to the prosperity of all and ththe furtherance of Christian peace in Northern Europe.

Re: Konungariket Sverige
Emissaries are sent to Sweden with congratulations on the combined success against the Pagan, and to discuss future relations between the Baltic powers.
Poland hopes to sign a treaty of friendship and cooperation between Sweden and Poland, and to properly discuss the status Romanov land recently liberated from the Devil-worshipper. Polish emissaries note that politically, it is difficult to maintain legitimacy with the Russian people while Sweden occupies Russian lands and makes separate peace with disgraced barbarians. However, Poland has every intention of adhering to the previously made agreements between the Polish and Swedish kings. Poland politely recommend that Novgorod, Arkhangelsk, and neighboring borders be organized into a separate duchy, to be managed solely by Sweden. This would ease the pain of the Russian people and help usher forth a peaceful future.
