Richmond Conference
Throughout the winter of 1785-86, Stevens Thomson Mason has been diligently establishing relations with Virginia's northern neighbors, based out of his diplomatic mission in Raleigh. After the cold reception Foreign Minister Jefferson received in Madrid, many in Richmond and along the frontier begin speculating on the future prosperity of Virginia's western regions, especially if they are unable to sell their wares in New Orleans. To address this issue, and present a united front, Mr. Mason invites representatives from the Carolinas and Georgia to Richmond to discuss the matter. He hopes discussion will begin in the Summer.
